Global Cut-A-Thon FAQs
The Hair Aid Global Cut-A-Thon is being held on Tuesday 23rd March 2021. This annual event is a major fundraiser for Hair Aid and allows us to continue providing training to those living in critical poverty and supporting both our domestic and international projects.
In 2021 we have modified the event to ensure every salon can participate with the current COVID situation.
This year, instead of salons bringing large groups of people to participate on the one day, we are asking each stylist to cut just one haircut, at any time on Tuesday 23rd March 2021 and donate the proceeds to Hair Aid. This means you can participate no matter where you are, even cutting your own families hair if you are in lock down at home.
The donation amount doesn't matter. Some will be able to donate the whole hair cut cost. Some might be in lockdown so any donation is perfect. Some might not have worked for a significant period of time and just want to be involved. In this instance we would be honoured to have you do a cut and send in a photo as your 'donation' for us to share on our social media. Given the year 2020 was, 2021 is all about being inclusive, allowing everyone to participate and be involved, no matter their current circumstance.

How does it work?
The 2021 Hair Aid Global Cut-A-Thon will be held in communities, towns, and cities around the world.
Hairdressers find a space, in their salon, in their home, anywhere that suits and cut one haircut at any time on the 23rd March 2021. Payment for the haircut is donated to Hair Aid to support their domestic and international projects. We'd love to see some creative places for cuts!
Can I cut more than one haircut?
YES! Of course you can. Typically we would have salons inviting large number of guests to come and have a haircut, but due to COVID-19 social distancing and in some instances around the world, salons being unable to open, we just wanted to ask people to do one haircut, so we can stay connected, and continue the wonderful annual connection the Hair Aid Global Cut-A-Thon creates. If your situation means you can run a full Cut-A-Thon, or a modified smaller Cut-A-Thon then go for it!
How do I plan for a Cut-A-Thon in my salon?
Unlike previous years the modified Cut-A-Thon requires less planning. However for those that are planning on holding a full Cut-A-Thon or even a modified Cut-A-Thon Hair Aid has developed an Action Plan with some tasks that you can follow. It's set out so that you can begin planning twelve weeks prior to the event, but it is easily modified if you sign up with fewer weeks to plan. Please email for a copy.
Can you explain how a Cut-A-Thon runs in easy terms?
In previous years, pre COVID Salons gathered a team of hairstylists that can come together for an agreed time during the Global Cut-A-Thon period and cut hair for donations. A space to hold the Cut-A-Thon was decided on - and usually, salons use their own premises.
This year, we are asking for a minimum of one cut, at any time, in any place, on Wednesday 23rd March 2021. We'd love it if all stylists could participate. Existing salon clients and community members can be asked to book an appointment to visit the salon on the day to get their hair cut and the salon will donate the money for the service to Hair Aid. Each Stylists should choose a client to be the guest on the day and arrange for them to be in attendance at the chosen time and location. As the Stylists cuts the chosen guests hair authorised and approved photos should be taken for the salon and the Stylists to use on social media. Hashtag #GlobalCutAThon #hairaid should be incorporated into the salons social media posts. Payment for the haircut is made as a donation using the link provided. An Tax receipt will be provided to the salon for the donation.
Awareness of the worldwide event is done through the Hair Aid social media pages, newspapers, television as well as on the salon's own social media accounts. Hair Aid will supply participation in social media images for individual salons to use. Hair Aid will help salons write to their local newspapers and television stations to get coverage of the salon's participation in the event.

Hair Aid will contact the salon once they are signed up and send out a welcome email to help salons prepare.
I'd like to raise additional funds before the Cut-A-Thon day. Is this possible?
In the lead, up to their Cut-A-Thon many salons seek local donations and run raffles. Raffle tickets are sold prior to and on the day.
On the day monies are donated for haircuts and blow drys. All monies raised are donated to Hair Aid to support the work Hair Aid does.
I'm a solo hairdresser. Can I participate?
I can't do the haircuts on the day. Can I do it a day earlier or later?
Yes, of course. We understand Tuesday 23rd March 2021 many not suit everyone. Please chose a date that suits you and your salon better and let our team know when you are doing your cut, so we can shout out about you on our social media. Email if you are using a different date.
Do I pay staff for the event?
The concept of the Hair Aid Global Cut-A-Thon is volunteers using their skills to support the work Hair Aid does. Volunteers donate their time on the day. If you decide you want to pay your staff as usual on the day, this is up to you.
How much should I charge clients on the day?
On average salons charge between $40 and $50 for a haircut and blowout. This seems to work well for many salons. We understand that every location is different. We have some barbershops doing men's cuts for $15. We are happy to entrust you with making the best decision for you and your clients. Some salons charge their normal prices on the day. It's up to you, but we can provide a guide/help you decide if you'd like support in pricing your Cut-A-Thon efforts. And remember, the world has been through some very tough times of late, so if you and or your salon has not worked for a significant period of time and just want to be involved, please do a cut and send in a photo as your 'donation' for us to share on our social media
We are a TAFE / Registered Training Organisation / Beauty School can we participate?
Yes. We encourage all Australian TAFEs and Registered Training Organisations to sign up and run their own Cut-A-Thon. This is a fantastic opportunity for hairdressing students and staff members to be recognized for their efforts in community engagement, project leadership, social media, event marketing, and event planning.
